They can move freely throughout the house and on a secured balcony. In addition, an outdoor enclosure is planned, which will provide even more space for climbing, playing and romping. Particular attention is paid to the health of the Maine Coons. Before being used for breeding, the cats are examined for HCM, HD and PKD; tests for SMA are also planned in the future. If a breeding animal shows one of these hereditary diseases, it is no longer used for breeding, is neutered and remains as a family cat in its familiar home. The breeding goals focus on healthy cats with the typical appearance and friendly nature of the Maine Coon. Through carefully selected pairings, Velvetangels Mainecoon also strives to keep the inbreeding value low. The animals grow up in close contact with people and are given plenty of space for exercise and activity.
