# CLUB FRANÇAIS DU CHIEN DE TERRE NEUVE ET DU LANDSEER Newfoundland breeder in Verlin · France

HISTORY On November 24, 1962, the first meeting of a provisional committee took place, aiming to officially establish the Club Français du chien Terre Neuve.

HISTORY On 24 November 1962, the first meeting of a provisional committee took place, aiming to officially establish the French Newfoundland Dog Club. The first committee was chaired by Monsieur Robert MONTENOT, Monsieur and Madame HEMMI and Monsieur and Madame DUBRULLE. The statutory general meeting of 14 December 1963 entrusted the first breeding commission to Madame Rabouille Fréminet, assisted by Docteur Moularde and Monsieur Montenot, and created the first working commission, chaired by Madame Chauvin, assisted by Monsieur and Madame Hemmi and Monsieur and Madame Dubrulle. In 1964, the CFCTN became affiliated with La Société Centrale Canine. The first breed specialty took place in MACON on 31 May 1964, with Monsieur MONTENOT as judge. In 1965, the CFCTN took part in the International Dog Show in Paris. In 1966, people began to speak of “Water Work” and “Natural Aptitude Tests”. The year 1967 saw the establishment of regional delegations. In 1968, the water work regulations were developed and accepted by the SCC. In 1969, consideration was given to creating water work sections in each region of France to train dogs for rescue. Monsieur Montenot resigned from his position as President in October 1969. The committee was restructured and Monsieur FREMINET became the new President of the CFCTN. At the end of 1969, the club had 106 members. It was 1970 and the CFCTN now had more than 225 members. The SCC’s new regulations granted the club control of the breed. In 1980, the SCC appointed Jean CHMIELEVSKI and Georges JACQ as trainee judges for water work. They gave water work its due recognition. It was at this time that the management of the Landseer breed was officially incorporated into the CFCTN, which consequently became the CFCTNL (Club Français du Chien Terre-Neuve et du Landseer). Since those years, the following have succeeded one another at the head of the club: Claudine BRAULT, Claude BROSSET, Roger TETARD, Jeanine PRIST, Eric PRUNIER, Daniel PINCON and Annie POUVESLE. In the 2000s, the club had more than 1223 members, 400 of whom practised water work within the club’s sections. ROLE The motto of the French Newfoundland and Landseer Dog Club (CFCTNL) is "beauty, work and selection". Thus, the club’s mission is to promote the breeding and propagation of purebred Newfoundlands and Landseers in France, in accordance with the standards of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). The main mission of the breed club is to determine all the measures intended to improve the breed and to select the best subjects. This is based on three essential criteria: -The criterion of conformity to the standard, defined solely by the external examination of the subject, -The criterion of character, -Aptitude for water work. The French Newfoundland Dog Club’s main objective is to improve the Newfoundland and Landseer breeds, encourage their breeding, contribute to their promotion and develop their use. It carries out its activities within the framework of the statutes, regulations and directives of La Société Centrale Canine, which it undertakes to respect and apply. It publishes the French translation of the official standard of the breed approved by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). The CFCTNL keeps an up-to-date directory of: -Recommended breeding stock -Breeding stock suitable for work (for breeds subject to a working trial) It draws up and submits to the SCC’s zootechnical commission the list of points of non-confirmation for the breed and determines the tests intended to contribute to its improvement. It trains breed judges possessing the knowledge and abilities required to officiate competently, authoritatively and impartially, both at shows and in working trials, in accordance with the SCC judges’ regulations. The CFCTNL organises breed specialty shows and confirmation sessions, either itself or as part of all-breed dog shows, and organises, either itself or with the assistance of La Société Centrale Canine or affiliated regional canine societies, working trials. It publishes a periodic bulletin dealing primarily with subjects likely to make the breed known and appreciated, enabling breeders to perfect their knowledge.
